Stars picked up the points they needed to lift the Premier Division title, despite defeat at Blaby Village.

And they followed it up with victory over Leuva Patidar in the Loros Cup final to complete a glorious weekend.

“Odedra said: “It was very pleasing to do the double.”

“At the beginning of the season we didn’t expect this but everyone has performed and contributed. It has been a real team effort.”

Stars went into the final league game at Blaby needing three points to be crowned champions while their opponents were battling relegation.

Blaby’s Joe Doyle (41) and captain Martin Blick (35) guided them to a competitive total of 169-6, the sixth wicket meaning Odedra’s men claimed the bonus points they needed for the title.

Seamer Nick Doyle (6-24), supported by his brother Joe and Blick, who took two each, then bowled out the champions for 125. Blick was delighted with the victory.

He said “We had only nine players because of people dropping out, so to beat the champions was a great achievement. When we play to our potential we are as good as anyone.”

In the Loros Cup final, Stars got off to a shaky start and were 45-4 after 15 overs.

A good knock from Sachin Naran (52) held the innings together before Vijay Odedra hit a quickfire unbeaten 38 to take Stars to 188 all out. Dharmesh Aribhai and Keshu Patel starred with the ball for Patidar, claiming three wickets each.

The Patidar innings never really got going and they were all out for 91, Parbat Shiva and Vijay each taking three wickets.

BH Patel, the Patidar captain, said: “We didn’t bat well at all. We are disappointed but if you don’t perform you don’t win.

“All credit to Maher Stars, they batted and fielded well.”
