Mahers are keen and very competitive sportsmen and women. Many events are held through out the year to bring the community together.
Sporting events has always been fought very hard regardless of event. The early sporting events were premitive, horse and ox cart races were most popular. Events were held on the outskits of the village.
However things have changed since then, cricket and football has taken the top places.
