As tremors continued to shake Advana town and nearby areas in Gujarat's Porbandar district, authorities on Thursday indefinitely closed down schools.
"Schools have been asked to remain closed till the situation gets normal. There have been widespread complaints of students living in constant fear during school time,"said Porbandar District Education Officer H Hariyanai, adding that in the past of couple of days teachers were taking classes outside school buildings.
Since Saturday, as many as 20 tremors have rocked parts of Porbandar and Jamnagar.Fear of a major earthquake has gripped people, many of whom now live in the open.
The Institute of Seismological Research, Gandhinagar, has set up a temporary offline laboratory at Advana and is monitoring the situation.
Experts at the institute are also studying data from the online observatory at Lalpur in Jamnagar, which beams real time data to the Gandhinagar centre.
પોરબંદરના અડવાણા ગામે દશ દિવસથી થઈ રહેલા ભૂગર્ગભના ધડાકા અંગે સંશોધન કરવા ગાંધીનગરથી ભૂસ્ત્રરશાસ્ત્રીની ટીમ દોડી આવી હતી અને આગમનું આગમન થયુ ત્યારે તેને આવકારવા જ ધરતી ધ્રુજી ઉઠતા અધિકારીઓ પણ ચોંકી ઉઠયા હતા અને એક સિસ્મોગ્રાફ યંત્ર મોકલવાની ખાત્રી આપી હતી.ગઈકાલે રાત્રે ટી.ડી.ઓ. તથા મામલતદારે અડવાણાની મુલકાત લીધા બાદ ગાંધીનગરથી સંદીપ અગ્રવાલન નેતૃત્વમાં ચાર સભ્યોની ટીમ અડવાણામાં આવી ત્યારે જ ભૂગર્ભના ધડાકાથી ધરતી ધ્રુજી ઉઠતા ખુદ ટીમે જ તેની અનુભૂતિ કરી હતી. ગ્રામપંચાયતના સદસ્ય ખીમાભાઈ ખુંટી તથા અન્ય આગવાનોને આ ટીમે એમ જણાવ્યું હતું કે અડવાણા વિસ્તારમાં વધુ વરસાદ પડયો છે. તેથી આ પાણી જમીનમાં ઉતરતા અંદરની બાજુએ પાણીનું પ્રેશર વધતા ધડકાઓ થઈ રહ્યાનું અનુમાન કર્યું હતું. એક સીસ્મોગ્રાફ યંત્ર તંત્ર તરફથી મોકલવામાં આવશે. તેવી ખાત્રી આપી હતી. દરમિયાન, અડવાણામાં આજે બાર કલાકમાં નવ જેટલા આંચકા અનુભવ્યા હતા જેમાં બપોરના સમયે આવતા આંચકાથી કાચા મકાનોનાં નળીયા પણ પડી ગયા હતા.
